Scenes From A Mall

USA - 1991
Location: Supposed to be Beverly Center, Beverly Hills
Theater(s): Fake

Woody Allen and Bette Midler directed by Paul Mazursky: wordy and boring...

Scenes From A Mall

Don't be fooled by appearances, the movie is set in the huge Beverly Center, but only the outside scenes were shot there. The inside scenes of the mall were shot at the other end of the country, at the Stamford Town Center, in Stamford, Connecticut, chosen because it looked a lot like the californian mall.

The cinema is supposed to be in the Beverly Center (a much smaller version of it, actually, with only four screens), but it seems fake; there is no sign with a name, and no chain logo. There is no theater inside the Stamford Town Center, and the sign, box-office and entrance were probably set in the mall. The auditorium itself might be part of the nearby "Landmark Square Cinema 9", but it is not certain (although the red and shiny seats look alike...)

At one point, the movie makes fun of Hollywood in early '90s, when mostly sequels were produced (this are so much different now!...)
