Staying Alive

USA - 1983
Location: New-York
Theater(s): Liberty, Empire, Lyric

Not so good, but almost okay... I guess seeing a 70mm print at the UGC Biarritz on the Champs-Elysées helped a lot! It was the sequel to "Saturday Night Fever".

John Travolta, who doesn't get easily scared, walks by night in good old 42nd street, among the old movie theaters.

Below, right of Travolta, the Liberty can be seen, followed by the Empire (they used to be located next to each other, read the bottom of the page, and compare the shot with Last Action Hero!)

What happened to them?
The auditorium of the Liberty is still there, but it is abandonned and in a terrible shape; the lobby was turned into an Easyeverything Café (some details of the former can be seen behind the orange sign).
The Empire was moved fifty meters to the right (!) The 25 auditoriums of the AMC Empire multiplex were built around and above the building.
The Lyric and the Apollo were gutted and joined to become the "Ford Centre for the performing arts", a large legit theater... sort of a missed opportunity (the audiotorium is too long and the acoustics are not that great).

These theaters appear in Last Action Hero.
